This masterfully crafted, offbeat romantic drama follows the twists and turns in the life of a schoolteacher, Cheenu (Kamalahasan) who rescues a mentally deranged woman Viji (Sridevi) from a brothel and looks after her in his hillside home. While the crazed woman, regressing into a childlike state, becomes devoted to him, he struggles to keep his sexual desire in check. While Viji is leading a blissful existence with Cheenu, with no memory of her past at all, Viji’s father Vedachalam (Veeraraghavan), has been desperately seeking her, even posting a newspaper advertisement about his lost daughter. A co-passenger who had travelled with Cheenu and Viji from Chennai to Ooty by train gives him a lead. When Cheenu takes Viji to an Ayurvedic medical practitioner for treatment, the police converge on the location forcing Cheenu to stay away for fear of action against him. Will Viji’s treatment be successful?
